My son's girlfriend was in an accident 10/31 (not her fault) with an uninsured motorist. She had gotten ins on the car on 10/6. They allow payment only by bank debit. She furnish information on her bank account and gave them the routing number the bank had given her. A few days later she received in the mail a welcome letter and a sheet showing that her first payment had been received.
Two days after the wreck she received in regular mail a letter postmarked 10/27 stating that her insurance was considered cancelled on 10/6 (inception) due to the bank not honoring their draw. Turns out the routing number the bank gave her was wrong.
They now won't accept the correct routing number as there is now a claim which they have no intention of paying.
She had a receipt from them showing they had recdeived payment and had no reason to believe there was a problem, otherwise she would have taken steps to correct the problem. The letter was postmarked 3 weeks after the initial date, it seems they should have know much sooner that the bank debit wouldn't clear.
I don't see how the insurance company can get away with this.
