    Hi All,
I have a 98 Audi A4 Quattro with just over a 100K miles on it. I was rear ended by this SUV when i was sitting on a traffic light waiting for it to change to green.

The bumper is scratched badly, and the trunk does not close anymore, there is a big dent at the bottom of the trunk rim, that prevents it from closing.

Audi service center says that the trunk lid and the bumper needs to be replaced and gave an estimate of $4000 for those as well some other minor cosmetic changes.

Progressive's estimator says the rear bumper needs to be changed and that some patch work will be done, so that the trunk can be latched again. And they give me an estimate of $1300.

Am I within my rights to tell them that i just need the amount that Audi says it will cost and that I will decide on whether I should get the car repaired or if I should just sell it off as is? Cos when I tell them that, they shoved a 1300 check down my throat and said that they can do any better only IF I take my car for repairs to Audi, and even after that, they would negotiate with Audi and come to some common conclusion which may or may not involve replacing the trunk lid.

They also say that their job is not to replace everything taht is damaged but to make sure that they bring the car to pre accident condition. I argued that pre accident condition was an untampered bumper and trunk and not a patch work one. For which they had no reply.

    Please advise.

That could get difficult to resolve.
Do you have any access to legal advice?
It might be useful if you're informed to talk with the company in a way that gives you a chance to get a good deal.
